Short-Term, Targeted Training

5 sessions, focused on a specific issue or goal, with measurable results

Some clients like the idea of having a trainer to work with over an extended period of time, to support and guide them in their journey to better health and a stronger, more resilient body. However, that may not be you…

Maybe what you need are a few focused sessions to get you started, or to address a physical issue that’s getting in the way of your normal exercise routine, something you’re trying to figure out how to work with so that it gets better and not worse. If so, short-term targeted training might be the answer!

Hi Jim, just wanted to say thanks for helping me have the first day in weeks with absolutely no shoulder or neck stiffness—even after multiple long Zooms. Whatever you did to break up the knots at the base of my neck, along with the shoulder stretches and foam rolling was genius! With gratitude and best wishes,
— Lisa

Short-term, targeted training could be a perfect solution in any of the following instances:

  • You’re getting back into regular exercise and want to put together a well-rounded exercise program for yourself that will feel good, minimize the possibility of injury, and be sustainable.

  • You’re planning to have shoulder or knee surgery in the next few months, and want to prepare your body for recovery by building strength, flexibility and resiliency into the soft tissues ahead of surgery. Or perhaps you’ve finished your PT sessions post-surgery, and want help incorporating the gains you’ve made in PT into a more comprehensive fitness program.

  • You’ve been seeing a PT for your shoulder (back, hip, knee, ankle), you have exercises that you’re suppose to be doing, but you need support in doing them, and integrating them into a whole-body exercise program.

  • You want to increase the power of your tennis ground strokes by tapping into and strengthening the kinetic chain that travels up from your feet and legs, through your hips and torso, then into your shoulder, arm and racquet and into the ball.

  • You’ve been feeling that your balance is a little off lately, and you want a program that you can do at home to maintain and improve your balance and coordination.

These are just some examples of issues or goals that might be perfect for a short-term training solution. You don’t even need to know exactly what it is you want or need to work on. We can probably figure that out together through a phone conversation or first session.

You will leave each session with specific suggestions for movements or exercises to work with on your own. You will get a better understanding of how this issue or goal fits into a picture of whole-body health and well-being. We will assess your progress (no pressure) and make adjustments as needed. At the end of the 5 sessions you will have a written program for continuing the gains you’ve made during the sessions.

SPECIAL ADD-ON: Joint session with Maria Noetzel, Doctor of Physical Therapy (see 2:1 Training)

My limited hip mobility and hip strength were reducing my ability to transfer force (strength) from my lower body to my upper body and vice versa. Jim immediately started me on a series of hip mobility and strength exercises and had me move my body in ways I probably hadn’t since I was a child. After just one session with Jim, I felt stronger and more resilient.
